The client came to us early last month and said he was adopted in 1956 by an Australian family, his mother was from the UK .
His mother travelled to the UK to give away her child because it was frowned upon to have a child before marriage.
So the 21 year old mother had to give away her son in Melbourne then went back by ship to the UK.
The only evidence we had of the mother was a birth certificate of the adopted son so we had some hard work ahead of us because the UK is a large population and it wasn’t going to be easy with only the mothers name, no father.
Our client the adopted son had been searching for 24 years with no success. He had called all the available public offices in Manchester and sent countless letters and emails to try and find his mother.
After contacting us it took 4 days because we had to do a data search and make a few calls so we could get a positive ID.
We found the fathers name and they were married in late 1956. but unfortunately they both past away 10 years ago.
We found and contacted the son who is our clients brother and confirmed a correct match.
Our client is now relieved and also in a bit of shock because he didn’t expect us to find him. The brother in the UK is also in shock because he never knew he had a brother.
